It's Not By SEO, Traffic Or Writing More Content. Here's The Number One Factor That Determines A Site's Rank

You must be wondering how Google determines which website to rank and which site to rank number one, two or three. A lot of people think it comes down to SEO, writing more content and getting page views.

Well, it's much more in-depth than that. Google has over 200 factors that they use to determine how to rank a site, and the number one factor that affects ranking isn't SEO, more content, page views or social shares.

The number one factor that affects ranking is BACKLINKS. In this article, I'm going to tell you guys what backlinks are and how they work.

MOZ SEO company recently interviewed a ton of marketing experts, and they asked them which factors affect Google ranking the most? Guess what, they all said Backlinks.

What are Backlinks?

When it comes to Backlinks, that's one website linking to another site. Google looks at it like votes. So, the more links that your website has, the higher you're going to rank. Also, Google is looking at the quality of that Backlink.

So, let's say your website is about sports, and the name of your website is Sports24.com If another sports website such as Goal.com links to you, that's way more effective than if an entertainment website such as TVLine.com links to you.

Google is smart. They know that it's way more challenging to get a link from Supersport.com than it is to get a link from a local sports news website.

Another thing that Google uses within its algorithm is how related those links are. So, if Goal.com links to your entertainment website, that won't be as effective compared to TVLine.com linking to you.

Here Are Few things To Know

Google is looking at how many Backlinks you're getting, and how many you're getting over time because it has to be natural. They don't want you to pay random people to link to your website. Google doesn't like that; you shouldn't pay for links.

They look at how related those website are, and they're looking at something called domain authority. That shows how authoritative a site is.

What Is Domain Authority?
Domain authority is from a scale of 0-100, and sites with a scale of 100 are sites like Google, YouTube, Netflix, Facebook, etc.

Let's say you're getting tons of Backlinks, and you're getting them from related websites with high domain authority. And like a logarithm scale, in which it's way easier to go from 1-10 than it is to go from 10-20.

So, if you can get a lot of Backlinks, if you can get them from relevant and authoritative sites that have high domain authority, your rankings are going to catapult to the top.

If you want to know your site's domain authority and you don't know where to start, you can go to open site explorer. If you google open site explorer, it'll take you to Moz, and you can put in a URL, and it'll show you your site's domain authority.

How to get Backlinks
Now that you know what backlinks are and how they work in the eyes of Google, if you want to have links from other websites, one of the quickest ways is to do round-up posts.

Email as many experts as you can find in your industry, and ask them questions relating to a particular area. It's an excellent opportunity for them to get a Backlink, which is why they'll be forced to participate and give you their responses.

After you've gotten their replies, write a fantastic blog post showcasing all their responses. Include their names, link to their websites, and link to their social profiles.

And after you're done with the blog post, and you've published it, email each of those experts and ask them to share it on their favourite social networks.

By doing that, your blog, or website is going to get more traffic. The more people that see your site, the higher the probability that someone's going to link back to your site.

The more backlinks you get, the more your ranking will increase.

Conclusion

There are tons of other ways to get backlinks on your site. But it's much harder to get them from top websites. Also, if you want your site to rank and you're terrible at SEO, then getting Backlinks is what you should be doing.
